Larry H. Miller Lexus of Murray and Lindon Delivering Donations to Children's Charities

Larry H Miller Lexus had the privilege of making $40,000 in charitable donations to four children’s charities in Utah April 21, 2016. Volunteers of America, Christmas Box International, Children’s Service Society of Utah, and The Sandy Club. Each of these organization was presented a check for $10,000. The funding of these donations came from our generous employees, public donations, and the Lexus Pursuit of Potential which supports organizations that are dedicated to improving children’s lives allowing them to pursue their dreams.

Volunteers of America, Utah provides basic needs to homeless youth in Utah. This center serves an estimated 20 to 50 youth per day. They provide meals, a roof over their heads, a safe place to sleep, and they work to empower homeless teens to complete their education and pursue employment opportunities. President and CEO Kathy Bray said, “A partnership with companies like this are what makes this possible. It makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of youths.” We had the opportunity to meet some of the teens and are very excited to see how their lives are impacted by these donations. Christmas Box International has a simple motto, every child deserves a childhood. This organization serves an estimated 7,500 children per year. Executive director, Lisa McDonald said, “The donation is going to go a long way. With this donation we will be able to provide clothing, school supplies, and community activities. It’s these things along with vital resources that makes sure kids have a childhood. It’s the community that makes the difference. It’s how our doors stay open. This is how we are able to help enrich the lives of kids who have handled abuse and neglect in their lives.” Here are the links to learn more about donating or volunteering with this organization.

Children’s Service Society of Utah provides services to individuals who are responsible for the well-being of a child. This group helps to facilitate adoptions, promote quality care for children through educating parents, working with families who are caring for a child relative through education and support, and providing opportunities to help parents overcome the challenges of parenting. This organization specializes in placing children who have special needs with families. Development Director, Ms. Nora Jackson, said, “This donation will give us an opportunity to serve more families and children everyday. When you make the difference someone else’s life, especially in a child’s life, you make that difference forever. Children with special needs require us to find just the right family to take care of that child. This is the oldest non-profit organization in Utah and we provide meaningful services to provide for the needs of the children in this community.” Learn more about donating or volunteering with this organization.

The Sandy Club’s mission statement is Empowering boys and girls by giving them a safe place to learn and grow. Kids come here after school and get help with homework and to socialize in a safe environment with friends. We had the chance to talk to several kids and asked them why they like to go there. Many of them shared the same statement. That when they leave school there is no one home and there is no other safe place for them to go. If they go to The Sandy Club then they see friends, get help with homework, they feel safe and they have fun. Kids who attend are recognized for their achievements, have scholarship opportunities, and the opportunity the attend special community events. The volunteers teach children how to respect themselves, others and their environment. The Sandy Club is available for children year round. Learn more about donating to this organization.
